Lesson 14

Halloween is coming up soon....

Watch this short filmclip

Discuss in groups of 2-3:
  • Which is your favourite horror movie? What is it about?
  • Do you like Halloween? What do you usually do on Halloween?
On Hanna's lesson yesterday, you all started using Readtheory. What are your thoughts about that? Was everything working?

Now let's continue with last week's task, when you wrote a presentation of yourselves without using your hands i.e. DICTATING!

I've read through all the presentations.
Good job!
Now I want you to use other tools to make the texts even better.

First of all - I want you to go through your text once again, only this time I want you to use SPELL RIGHT.
If you haven't downloaded this program yet, this is how you do it:
1. Go to: TILLÄGG
2. HÄMTA TILLÄGG
3. Look for this symbol:
4. Press: GRATIS
5. Press: OK
6. Now you can open Spell right by pressing: STARTA

Your screen will look like this now:

Secondly: I want you to listen to your own text by using TTS (talsyntes). First you might have to change the language. You do that by going to:
  1. SYSTEMINSTÄLLNINGAR
  2. DIKTERING OCH TAL
  3. TALSYNTES
  4. SYSTEMRÖST
When you listen. Try to see if there are somethings that you might want to change in your texts.

Finally: Send the text to me again. My email: asa.norlin@fridaskolan.se

Don't forget that everything you do att Språkvalet
will affect your English grades.

Lesson 12

Today's lesson

Part 1.) Practising for the national test that will take place after the autumn break - the oral part.

If you're in a group discussion, what is important to think about?
  • Only use English
  • Be active (but don't forget to let the rest of the group speak)
  • Ask questions and be interested in what the rest of the group are discussing
  • Use full sentences with a variation of words and expressions
  • Focus on the subject you are given
Today, I'll give you a card each that I want you to read out loud. Then I want you to either agree or disagree with the statement on it. Explain why!

Part 2.)
a.) If you didn't finish the written examination on Hanna's lesson last Monday, this is your second chance. Write a conversation from a restaurant. Use at least 100 words.

b.) If you did finish the written exam, I want you to go to www.newinlevels.com. Choose one newsreport and read it through. Write a few key words so that you're able to retell the news to someone else in the class. If there are words that you don't know, use Linguarana. The translation tool that you downloaded from Chrome webstore.

Lesson 11

Warm up:
In groups, discuss how you would respond to the following situations:
1. You are at a bus stop when you see a man threatening a boy with a knife and demanding money from him.
2. You are in a crowded bus. Suddenly you notice that the man standing next to you is trying to open a woman's handbag. You seem to be the only one in the bus who has seen it.

Today's lesson: This lesson will be a bit different from the the former ones. Today, you'll be practising at dictating in English and to introduce yourselves to people who don't know you at all.

First of all, I want you to add either American English or British English as your dictating language. I also want you to add a keyboard shortcut. For ex: alt + <

Now open a blank Pages document and press alt + <.
Now you can start dictationg by speaking English and then press "avbryt" as soon as you want to have a break.

Have a look at this filmclip now. Is she introducing herself succesfully?

Use the paper with the exercise: "talk about yourself". Try to answer as many questions as possible. At the end of the lesson, I want you to email me your presentation:
